Manos, the hanks of fate

(If any of you get the reference in the title of this post, I won’t know whether to reward you, pity you, or pretend I don’t even know you. :-P)

I swung by the Nest about a week ago. Up until that point, I’d been pretty good about not purchasing yarn without a project in mind. But then my eye was drawn to some turquoise Manos wool, and before I knew it, I walked out with the three hanks they had on the shelf.

“What the heck do I do with three hanks?” I asked myself. The projects I had in the pipeline at that point were lace, gloves, and sweaters. Needless to say, the yarn I’d bought would be good for, um, none of those things.

But then I asked Jess for ideas, and she pointed out that it should be about enough for a minisweater (sans butt-ugly border).

Funny that. I’d actually kind of sort of been throwing around the idea of making one for awhile, but it wasn’t an absolute “must make ASAP” project. But now that I have yarn appropriate for the project, the minisweater gets added to the queue, and at a fairly high position too. And now that I think about it, I’d actually wear it fairly often – I have boatloads of tank tops with thin straps, but I can’t really wear them at work without covering up a bit. (Though my job’s ridiculously flexible about clothing, I personally draw the line at tank tops). So with a minisweater, I could cover up the tanks with something other than an open blouse.

See, I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon. I’m actually being kind of practical with my project choice.

I probably won’t start knitting it until after I finish one of my WIPs. (Though I can’t say the same about, say, the Forest Path Stole.) But it’ll get done soonish, I’m sure.
