Who needs knitting?

As predicted, knitting has been put on the backburner for this month. Oh well.

In the meantime, I do still need to post pictures of those projects I finished a couple of weeks ago. (Eris is not among that group, because I still haven’t gotten around to seaming the underarms. Why am I so lazy when it comes to finishing? It’s not even hard.)

I’m getting good use out of my cabled hat – I’m wearing it right now, actually, and have gotten positive comments on it. It’s interesting and I like it, even if it’s not entirely movie accurate. I might knit a modified version in a different color and yarn; narrowing the chart and including more chart repeats would make for a really cute hat. Well, it looks cute on Emma Watson, anyway. :-P

I may not be working on very many knit items, but at least I’m wearing them!

Not-so-finished objects

I forgot to take a picture of Eris before washing it, so you’ll just have to wait for finished photos. But, pre-blocking pictures of other projects are here!

First, here’s what one chart repeat looks like for Hermione’s cable-and-bobble hat.

(Brightened a bit to better show detail. I swear it doesn’t really have an orange tint to it in person.)

The hat looks really narrow like this, but then again, it’s folded into thirds for this pictures. It will actually fit on my head as it is, but it’ll be more comfortable after a good blocking.

And look, it’s a wad of yarn with holes!

This is otherwise known as the unblocked Lotus Blossom shawl. I always forget how crappy lace looks before blocking.

The beautiful thing about living alone in a decently-sized place is that I actually have enough room to block three separate projects without worrying about them getting stepped on or sat on or otherwise screwed up somehow. I’ll pin Lotus Blossom out on the futon in my living room, and the hat can be done on my counter, since I’m using a bowl for blocking it. (No, I still haven’t blocked either of the pictured projects yet, despite having had pictures since Saturday. Oops!)

Eris is laid out on a blocking board on my floor at the moment. No pictures, because like I’ve said before, my interior lighting isn’t well-suited for photography.

Wow. I have a shockingly low number of projects on the needles now. I might have to fix that.

December 2005 goals

Last month’s goals:

  1. Make more realistic goals – Done! I think…
  2. Finish Eris – Done! Well, the knitting part, anyway.
  3. Finish Lotus Blossom – See #2
  4. Finish cable-and-bobble hat – See #2
  5. Finish cabled purse – Not done. I’m close, though.
  6. Work on FPS and get through at least tier 15 – Not done; I’m a couple of tiers short.
  7. Work on Channel Pullover – Done!
  8. Work on toe socks – Done!
  9. Start golf club covers – Not done.

I haven’t gotten around to blocking Eris, Lotus Blossom, or the cable-and-bobble hat yet. And I don’t have any new pictures for any of those projects because it’s dark by the time I get home, and I greatly prefer photos with some natural light sources. Maybe tomorrow before I block, though.

(Blogging activity – or at least, activity with pictures – is probably going to be low in the next couple of months, thanks to that lack of natural light. Just so you know.)

While I had made some progress on the Channel Pullover, I decided that I didn’t like how it was knitting up (I got gauge, but the fabric was a bit too loosely knit for my tastes). So, I ripped it all out again. I had wanted to finish it before going up to Washington for Christmas, but it’s probably not going to happen.

I’m hesistant to make goals, because I’m sort of in the knitting doldrums right now. That, and my favorite “winter” hobby is reading… more specifically, curling up under the covers with a good book and some sort of hot drink (either tea or homemade hot chocolate). And chances are that, like practically every year since my early childhood, I’ll end up dropping most of my other hobbies to get more reading time in.

But! I do need to get some knitting done, so:

  1. Finish holiday gifts
  2. Work on Channel Pullover
  3. Work on toe socks
  4. Work on Forest Path Stole

Maybe I should figure out a way to knit while reading?

Nah…

Anti-finishing syndrome

One cuff. Just one stupid cuff, and I’ll be done with Eris. I’ve only got a few rows left in the last chart of Lotus Blossom. And, I’m just a few rows shy of finishing my cabled hat.

Those projects have been in that state for at least a week now. I’m not quite sure why I can’t just bring myself to finish them. I don’t even have new WIPs to blame… just my own laziness.

But! I have do have a four-and-a-half-day weekend coming up, so should get at least one of those projects finished then. Maybe even two. I can always hope, right?

Who needs FOs?

I’m only one chart away from finishing Lotus Blossom and a few rows and a cuff from finishing Eris. So of course, instead of completing either project, I worked on a newer one this week.

This is going to be the most obnoxious sock ever. So, needless to say, I love it already.

Months ago – or maybe it was over a year ago? – I’d bought several balls of sock yarn from Elann. Three balls went toward my tipless gloves. Three more balls were intended for striped socks. I wasn’t entirely sure how the colors would go together at the time, but they looked fine on my monitor. In person, the purple is less grey, and, the green’s a little brighter than I’d like, but hey, bright, not-entirely-coordinating colors are an essential component of silly socks, right?

After this pair, though, I think I’ll be done with stripes for while.

Speaking of stripes and gloves, I need to get a picture of my tipless gloves. But they live in my office at the moment, and until I remember to either bring my camera to work or bring my gloves back home, you’ll just have to imagine how the pair looks.
